Four stories to tell a story
My doctoral research was the first in the world to explore bibliotherapy from the facilitator’s perspective, reframing the field as a practice grounded in presence rather than prescription. This work established me as a pioneering voice in bibliotherapy and laid the foundation for two decades of practice.
From this beginning, I developed Heart-Centred Bibliotherapy, an approach that places reflection, curiosity and care at the heart of the reading experience. Today, this approach shapes training and reflective reading programs across Australia and internationally, bringing literature to life as a source of insight, connection and care.
What began as pioneering, world-first research has continued to evolve through two decades of practice, teaching and listening in real library and community settings. Over time, this work has moved away from prescription and toward a way of practising bibliotherapy grounded in presence and shaped by how readers actually meet story. This shift continues to inform how bibliotherapy is taught and practised today at Bibliotherapy Australia.
