Graduate Gatherings

“In the Heart-Centred Gatherings, distance softens and time feels spacious.”

The Ripple Effect

Our work grows from community.
Years ago, a program I designed brought together more than two hundred volunteers. What unfolded was a culture shaped by kindness, presence and a sense of purpose held together. The warmth that moved between people became contagious, and the ripples of that culture continued far beyond what any of us expected.

Communities across Australia reached out after experiencing something of that presence, wanting to understand how such warmth and care had been created.

Those years showed us how generously a community can grow when people feel seen, valued and welcomed. The learning from that time sits quietly beneath everything we cultivate here at Bibliotherapy Australia.

Gatherings are one way we continue this work together.
They offer a sense of warmth and belonging that stays with each of us. We return to story and to one another, creating a place where reflective reading, practice and collective experience can unfold with ease and companionship.

What graduates say

“I wanted to share how much the Gatherings mean to me. When I first joined your bibliotherapy course as a non-professional, I was hoping to reshape my relationship with reading. It had always been tiring and difficult for me because I wasn’t read to as a child and have a few processing challenges.

Being read to during the course opened something very gentle in me. Each Gathering continues that in its own way. The voices, the reflections and the way people show up with such presence give me a sense of warmth and belonging that I truly look forward to. I feel it when I can’t attend.

These sessions have also encouraged me to read more in my own life, and especially with my five young grandkids, which brings me so much joy. I’m really grateful for this community and for the care and steadiness I feel in each session. Thank you, Susan, and thank you to everyone who comes to the Gatherings.”

“In the Heart-Centred Gatherings, distance seems to dissolve and time becomes spacious. The connection with others who bring such care and dedication to words is a gift in my life.

These Gatherings help me release my overthinking and rest in the present with no efforting. It is not the power of now but the power in now, and the Gatherings ease me into that with such grace. Thank you.”

“You have taken Bibliotherapy to the next level, and I wanted to say how inspiring that is. As Mary Oliver said “giving until the giving feels like receiving”. I hope you know that by inspiring us and facilitating the Graduate Gatherings, you’re receiving its gifts in return. The Heart-Centred work you’ve put into Bibliotherapy Australia is truly refreshing and deeply appreciated.”

The Graduate Gathering

The Graduate Gathering is an intimate and meaningful space for continued learning and connection. We meet as peers and fellow readers, each bringing our own presence, stories and questions. Together we explore what it means to hold story with care in our communities.

We meet monthly from our own spaces, but still together.

Graduates have the option of offering a short practice session. After each offering we pause to reflect together. We notice what resonated, what came alive and what might gently strengthen our way of working with story. These conversations deepen confidence, steadiness and a sense of community and belonging.

Practising in a Safe, Supportive Space

I really enjoyed facilitating a bibliotherapy session for the group. It was such a pleasure to hear everyone’s unique and thoughtful responses to the story and the poem.

The way each person connected with the material in their own way made the whole experience deeply rewarding and genuinely enriching. It reminded me why I love this work so much.
